We thought we’d treat ourselves on the last night of our wonderful holiday in Hvar. I’m a bit of a foodie and have been lucky enough to eat at some very posh restaurants both at home (UK) and abroad. So, Black Pepper looked like a great place to sign off. Have to say, I was seriously disappointed. There’s a lot of fanfare made of the chef having won Masterchef. I’d question if THAT chef is working in the kitchen at all. The amuse bouche was quite nice - a little bit of raw tuna on something that resembled a prawn cracker. Tasty enough, but nothing to get excited about. Me and the missus shared a starter - the arancini. This was interesting due to cuttlefish ink and relatively nice and light (I can find some arancini quite heavy and dense). They were kind enough to cook my wife’s steak to the required doneness (med-well) and it was perfect for her. This comes with some rather large and not-very-refined potato croquettes. The texture of the potato was a little strange in my opinion and had a slightly watery after taste. But, my wife enjoyed her meal overall. I had the lambada. A lamb shank with carrot and onion purées. If the chef would have served this dish at any of the masterchef competitions I have watched I expect they’d have been eliminated immediately. Whilst the lamb had been cooked nicely (not a difficult feat with lamb shank) it was surrounded by sweetness. Sweet lamb, with sweet purées, crispy sweet onions, fig jam….need I go on. It was like a lamb dessert. The complete absence of any acidity meant the dish had no balance whatsoever and just wasn’t enjoyable at all. Our waiter, whilst extremely smiley and friendly, is desperately in need of training. When you are promised a premium dining experience (and charged accordingly) it is the little things that make the difference. Empty glasses and bottles were left on our small table for far too long. He never checked in to see how our meals were. He forgot to bring the wine and needed prompting. And, when I tried to point out I hadn’t had a great experience he seemed completely incapable/unwilling to listen to feedback. Instead just grinning back at me. I’d rarely be so scathing, but if you are going to charge £100 per head (4 x drinks, 1 x starter, 2 x mains), you have to deliver the experience to go with it. Not only was it the worst value meal we had in Hvar (and everywhere is quite expensive), it was the worst meal I had in Hvar- full stop

Dishes are completely average - for a restaurant that aspires to be good. Rubber octopus, tiramisu average without any expression. Waiters do not know the basics of restaurant savuarwiwru language - arrangement of cutlery.

Our first dinner in Hvar and it did not disappoint. The food is spectacular and it has a great atmosphere nestled away in one of Hvar’s many cobble stone streets. Highly recommend for dinner.

Everything was very good here. Upscale restaurant, with the chef apparently being a MasterChef winner. Cocktails were very tasty. We started with a tomato + burrata cream appetizer ("Summer Affair") which was excellent and arguably better than the mains - should have simply ordered (x4) of these and called it a great night out! 😂 For mains, we ordered the Octopus and Gregada. Both were very good. I'd say the Gregada could have had a bit more food on the plate, but otherwise very tasty. The Octopus was delicious as well and I would highly recommend it. Finished with a fabulous Lavender Tiramisu for dessert! Overall, great experience. Staff were very good. As mentioned, it's an upscale restaurant so prices are even more elevated than the rest of Hvar Town but worth it for the experience.

Probably the best food we've had in Croatia in the span of 10 days, close if not better than the Michelin starred Peligrini. In a laid back atmosphere but the quality of food, service, and creativity is that of a fine dining restaurant. Definitely stop by if you're in Hvar for a fantastic dinner!

I had a wonderful dining experience, I ordered the burrata and the cauliflower steak—both dishes were absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. What truly made the experience exceptional was the service. Our waiter Kruno was outstanding—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food.

Partner i ja naišli smo na ovaj restoran u samom centru grada Hvara. Restoran je moderan, ali sa naglaskom na lokalna jela. Imaju izvrsnu ponudu domaćih vina i dobre preporuke uz jela. Jela sam gregadu od brancina i gambera, a partner je jeo biftek s pireom od pasternjaka. Oba jela bila su odlična. Za desert smo jeli tiramisu od lavadne što prije nismo nigdje vidjeli. Okus je bio jako neobičan, ali preprefin. Konobar Mateo je jako ugodan, profesionalan i otvoren za preporuke. Preporučio nam je pošip Nericu koji je savršeno pasao uz ribu. Sve u svemu, sve pohvale za ovaj restoran.

El sitio es espectacular, las luces, las flores y las mesas en sus callea tipicas y angostas generan la atmosfera perfecta. Tanto sus platos como la recomendacion de vinos son increibles, un mimo al paladar. Pero sin lugar a dudas lo que genera una experiencia alucinante es la atencion de los mozos, amables, serviciales, y muy simpaticos. Un lugar para volver, sin dudas. We need to start of why we chose this restaurant, we passed this with our maxi-cosi with our 2 month old baby. Hvar is not build for this so we had trouble finding a way down without to many stairs. The staff of this restaurant wanted to help us down, even without us having any intention to eat here. This shows that they have hospitality build in their soul and it is not just their job. Few days later we came back for dessert after a not so good experience at another restaurant. The dessert was WAUW, my wife couldn't stop saying how good it was. So we decided to come back the day after for the whole experience. And it was fantastic! Our host was helpful as always. We took a 3 course meal, both my wife and me took different things so we could taste from each other. Not only the service, but also the food was perfect.

Predivan restoran s jako kvalitetnom hranom i uslugom. Izvrsna hrana pravljena s jako kvalitetnim namirnicama te veliki izbor vina. Prekrasan ambijent koji pruža lijepi dalmatinski ugođaj koji odgovara uz hranu koju smo jeli. Usluga na velikom i zavidnom nivou. Stvarno sve preporuke!!!

Walked into this beautiful by lane and found this really cute but pricey place on the stairs. We ordered appetisers and the summer affair was excellent while yhe black arancini lacked flavour. In the mains the lamb shank was really good - cooked to perfection and served with this beautiful carrot puree. The octopus was cooked to perfection as well while the tarttufo and cauliflower steak were decent. The only downside was that we were looking forward to ordering dessert (tiramisu) and when we did our server informed us that they had shut the kitchen as we were the only ones in the restaurant at 10.20pm without checking with us if we wanted to order anything. A little let down by that also the bill was a little steep as we had just one drink each.

el mejor restaurante de la Hvar es sin duda black pepper... !! La atención es muy buena.. los mozos te explican cada plato y son cordiales. Cuando fui pedí El tartare .. el Pulpo y el mejor postre que probé, el tiramos de lavanda. .. recomiendo que si visitan Hvar pasen por Black pepper!!

A very fun location on the stairs, but the service was awful. We asked for a beer and was told "my colleague" will be with you. That took nearly forever. Once we actually ordered, that was like waiting for a baby to be born. Their attitude about the time it took was dismissive at best. The bottom line - They just don't care what so ever. We wouldn't go back, even for a beer. However... Just found this last-minute game changer — it’s an app called TwøDay™ that shows what’s going on near me over the next 48 hours.
