Cravaticum is a unique and dedicated boutique museum celebrating the history and cultural significance of the cravat. Located in the heart of the city, this one-of-a-kind museum offers an engaging experience where visitors can explore the fascinating origins and evolution of this iconic fashion accessory.

Historical Significance

According to legend, the first cravats were crafted by girls and women in Croatia for the men departing for the Thirty Years' War (1618 - 1648). These garments symbolized good luck and a safe return home. The French soldiers, noting the scarves worn around the necks of Croatian soldiers, referred to them as “La Cravat” (from Croat). This marking gave birth to the cravat's journey from military necessity to a beloved fashion statement.

The Evolution of the Cravat

Following the war, a special regiment known as the Royal Cravates was established in France in 1667, named after Croatian soldiers known for wearing cravats. The transition of the cravat from a military accessory to a fashionable item is attributed to Louis XIII, while in Croatia, renowned poet Ivan Gundulić was known to wear one.

A quite different place where even a single necktie can contain a lot of history. Leon, the historian that works there, is pretty knowledgeable and is happy to spend time with you and engage with you in an super interesting exchange of ideas. Super recommended

Symbol of Croatia must see when you come in Zagreb. Sometimes giant ones are shown.

We truly enjoyed visiting this museum of neckties - Leon our guide, a historian, made it all come alive. Amazing how neckties evolved. Highly recommended. Tip : get the Zagreb Pass €31 for 1 day or €37 for 3 days - most museums entrance fees are included in the pass plus tram rides.

Ture su svaki puni sat. Uključuje kratki filmić o povijesti kravati i obilazak i objašnjenja vodića.

An absolute gem of a museum and experience - the best thing we did in the city thanks to Leon, his absolute wealth of knowledge, hilarious jokes, and perfect delivery. We actually had to make a meeting about halfway through the tour (odd, I know) and we came back to the museum for Leon to finish the job - which he did with incredible enthusiasm. Could not recommend more.

A hidden gem! We didn’t expect to spend more than an hour here, but ended up having an amazing time. The museum is small but full of fascinating stories, and the guided tour by Kristina was fantastic—informative, engaging, and fun. We learned so much about the history of the necktie. The guided tour was included in the ticket price, which was a great bonus. Highly recommended!

Można potranowac wiązanie krawatów, dotknąć krawatu kuloodpornego albo drewnianego, zobaczyć krawat wyszywany złotem a nawet zaprojektować swój własny. Ciekawie i zabawnie.

This was a great quirky museum with a guided tour (starts on the hour) with really knowledgable guides that take you through history of Croatia and the necktie. This museum is visually beautiful and well done to display different sections, have some practical learn to tie sections and some Instagram worthy photos. I highly recommend visiting this museum- definitely a fun thing to do in Zagreb to keep out of the sun!

Well here we are with another 5-star review. Kitschy but informative. Takes about 60-90 minutes to do it all. Ivona was our guide (tours every hour) and was very knowledgeable and entertaining. You do really learn a lot about ties by the end of it.

AI Slop. Intro video is AI generated nonsense. Fake and unrealistic photos. Exhibits are sparse. Not worth it, even with the Zagreb Card.
