This statue was created in 1938 by renowned sculptor Robert Frangeš-Mihanović to honor King Tomislav, the first king of Croatia. Due to symbolic controversies during World War II and the subsequent political regime change, the monument was not installed until 1947. King Tomislav ruled as Duke of Croatia around 910, and in 925, he became the first crowned King of Croatia. During his reign, Croatia formed an alliance with the Byzantine Empire, defeated the Bulgarian Empire in battle, and expanded and unified its territory. The statue is a bronze equestrian monument depicting King Tomislav on horseback, standing approximately 6 meters tall. The stone pedestal features the coat of arms of Croatia, and its sides are decorated with reliefs illustrating historical scenes from his reign.

Este punto, en mi opinión, es la entrada clásica y principal a la capital de Croacia. Con el “fondo de pantalla” de nuestra frontera natural septentrional podemos trasladarnos con la imaginación incluso en el Orient Express a tiempos mucho más remotos para entender el comienzo de la turbulenta y apasionante historia de los croatas. Es uno de los vértices más bellos de la Herradura de Lenuci, donde se yergue heroica la figura ecuestre del Rey Tomislav, llamado el primer rey de los croatas, al recibir la corona santa del Vaticano.
