Joe Peña’s Cantina – ¡Ay, caramba! This review is for all you Tex-Mex addicts out there. You won’t have to worry night and day about getting your fix in Ljubljana. This particular restaurant will perfectly cater to your quirky culinary addiction. While living in the States,I fell in love with this cuisine. Little did I know that it’s not the same as traditional Mexican food. Apparently, it uses a narrower base of ingredients, more adapted to the taste buds of us gringos. Nevertheless, I have been on an eternal burrito quest since my foreign adventure. Now, let me tell you about my favorite Tex-Mex-dealer in Slovenia, Joe Peña’s. In combination with the interior, their flavorsome dishes always take me for a toothsome spin. So, unchain your heart, follow my lead and give into your pseudo-Mexican food cravings. It can happen that you’ll have to wait a little while before you get a table. However, that’s because this restaurant is popular with an extensive range of locals from our society’s various layers. So, order that well-deserved Joe’s margarita. Then, patiently await your turn, and picture yourself standing next to Hemingway, discussing how he caught that legendary swordfish on the wall. When you’re finally seated, I recommend ordering a bowl of fresh, finger-licking-good guacamole as your appetizer. The waiter will crush those pesky avocados, season them, and double-check which condiments you want in your dip on the spot. All the while, you can sip on that second classic frozen margarita. Enjoy!

Extremely disappointed in the enchiladas, the sauce is supposed to smother the tortilla, not barely cover it. I had to ask for salsa in order to not have dried out, overcooked corn tortilla. The rice was undercooked that it was still crunchy, and the entire platter overall came out in less than 5 minutes after I ordered it and at room temp. The server was kind and attentive, but unfortunately, the food just downplayed the rest.
