The Astronomical Observatory is an accredited scientific institute dedicated to research in astronomy and astrophysics. With its main premises situated in Belgrade, in the Zvezdara municipality, the Observatory also operates the Astronomical Station Vidojevica on the Vidojevica mountain near Prokuplje. The institution is governed by a Director and a Steering Committee, ensuring a structured approach to its scientific endeavors.

The Observatory houses the largest astronomical library in Serbia, boasting over 5,000 books and approximately 100,000 issues of periodicals dedicated to astronomical research.
