A special place where you can immerse yourself in another world... Abandoned houses and stables may seem eerie to some, but for me they only evoke thoughts about the lifestyle of the inhabitants of that time. Here, it is as if time has stopped, there is peace among the ruins, surrounded by silence that is only disturbed by the chirping of birds. When you come among the ruined houses of this village, you feel as if you have stepped into a fairy tale. Unlike most abandoned forest locations, this place has an information board in several foreign languages at its entrance, where its history is briefly described. This has made it part of the tourist offer of the Kastav region. The Kastav forest offers a series of well-maintained walkways of various lengths - the shortest is a five-kilometer circle, the middle one is nine, and the longest is 16 kilometers. All three pass by the village of Cari. The buildings in the village were built in a traditional way and have become intertwined with nature over time, and the well in which there has been no water for a long time is particularly attractive. Some windows, which have not been inhabited for more than half a century, still have metal bars. Instead of people, forest plants and probably a few animals have moved in. The population here used to mainly work on cultivating the scarce land and selling cow's milk and wine. All that remains of the village are the ruins of old stone houses, now overgrown with vines, which gives a mysterious touch to this once important place, but now almost forgotten, while nearby is a guardhouse that marked the Rapallo border with barbed wire. The remains of border posts are also visible, which, even after a century, remind us of the turbulent past of this region. The abandoned village of Cari is a characteristic example of folk architecture in the Kastav region and it would be of great importance if it remained as such a memory of some ancient times.
