Worth checking out unfortunately no public access which is a shame. Surrounding gardens and streets were pretty grubby with litter needed a good litter pick.

The Roman Theatre of Trieste was unearthed in 1937/38, freeing it from the buildings that had been built on its ruins over the centuries. Restored and partly rebuilt, it has the typical semi-circular shape of Greek anid Roman theatres with a cavea spectators (around 3, 500), an orchestra and a permanent architectural backdrop with scenes in which were placed statues representing divinity, emperors and illustrious citizens. Among these was Quinto Petronio Modesto, who in the second century AD, contributed to the restoration of the theatre, as cited in two inscripfions on the. site. The first phase dates back to the Augustan Age.
