I loved this place and want to give it five stars but most of the information inside is in Croatian only and not English. The outside takes as much time and is filled with excellent archeological finds from the area. Inside, various rooms are divided into eras and themes. One of the rooms is dedicated to caves that served as retreats and meditation centers which I wish had the information provided in English. I had to use my phone to get an idea of some of the information. Upstairs there are some more modern pieces and history of the building.

Seul la partie extérieure était accessible. Celle-ci ressemble plus à un entrepôt d'objets sans aucune explication ni fil conducteur. Le personnel n'est pas du tout accueillant et ne m'a clairement pas dit après avoir acheté mon ticket que la partie intérieure était en cours de rénovation.

Der Außenbereich hat schöne Ausstellungsstücke. Der Innenbereich ist etwas klein und zeigt auch deutlich weniger als auf der Webseite mit 360 Grad Rundgang.

Man kann sich den Außenbereich des Museums gratis anschauen, denn lediglich die Ausstellungen im Innenbereich des Hauptgebäudes sind kostenpflichtig. Die Erläuterungen der einzelnen Exponate sind recht spärlich und man muss an einigen Stellen mutmaßen, worum es sich an der Stelle handelt und wie diese in den historischen Kontext zu setzen sind. Leider sind auch die Amphoren nicht ausgestellt und zugänglich und nur aus der Ferne zu sehen. Auch dort ohne wirkliche Erklärung und so. Ebenso ungut ist die derzeitige Ausstellung im Hauptgebäude, da diese an den Tafeln lediglich in Kroatisch und in Französisch dargestellt sind. Über einen QR-Code sind Teile der Texte, nicht aber die Bilder und deren Erläuterungen auch auf Englisch verfügbar, aber das ist alles mehr als mühselig und ermüdet einen doch sehr schnell. Das war eine sehr unbefriedigende Darstellung der Exponate.

Une belle découverte ! Le musée archéologique de Split est un lieu calme, enrichissant et très bien organisé. Les collections sont riches et bien présentées, avec de superbes pièces datant de la période romaine, grecque et paléochrétienne. On y apprend beaucoup sur l’histoire de la région, et le cadre du musée, avec son joli jardin intérieur, rend la visite encore plus agréable. Parfait pour une pause culturelle à Split, je recommande vivement aux amateurs d’histoire et de patrimoine !

Wonderful place for anyone interested in the Roman archaeological finds in this area. An impressive but randomly organised collection of stone carvings displayed around the sides of a quadrangle. Sarcophagi, Headstones etc some as old as first century. A small indoor collection of artifacts in the main building is less interesting with French but no English descriptions. I understand this is because it's sponsored by the French government. In the interior of the quadrangle are reproduced Roman stoneworks; less interesting than the original pieces around the sides. I was amazed to be the only person there during my visit. There are labels on many of the items in English, but for more detailed information you can scan the QR codes for audio.

Fraude. 8 Euros tirados. Objetos amontonados sin explicación en el exterior del jardín y en el interior hay una exposición de iglesias dálmatas, sin apenas objetos y con extensas explicaciones, pero solo en croata y francés.

Die Ausstellung ist sehr klein und unverständlicherweise lediglich auf kroatisch und französisch. Für englische Übersetzungen gibt es QR Codes, was aber auf die Dauer anstrengend zu lesen und auch nicht vollständig ist. Die Ausstellung selbst wirkt vom Thema her sehr chaotisch, es gibt ständige Zeit- und Ortssprünge inhaltlich. Der Hof hat sehenswerte Exponate, die aber sehr spärlich beschildert sind und nur wenig Informationen liefern. Für 8 Euro Eintritt war das eine Enttäuschung und nicht zu empfehlen.

Well worth the entrance fee and if you go to the Roman ruins at Solin you can get a combined ticket that makes both visits cheaper

Small, but one of the best archeological museums we’ve ever visited. They have an intriguing collection of ancient stone carvings on display.

Les collections extérieures sont très intéressantes mais il faut d'abord rentrer dans le bâtiment pour payer et ensuite ressortir. L'exposition temporaire actuelle est en français et en croate.
