KROKODIL: Engaging Words and Community in 10 Stories

KROKODIL is an association dedicated to creating literary, cultural, and socio-political programs and content to foster literary audiences and promote dialogue, reconciliation, and the reconstruction of broken cultural ties, primarily in the Western Balkans. Through various initiatives and projects, KROKODIL engages communities and contributes to the social fabric of society.

Festival KROKODIL

The annual KROKODIL Festival, held every June in the open amphitheater in front of the Museum of Yugoslavia, celebrates literature and the arts with diverse programming, including author readings, panel discussions, and performances. The 2025 festival promises a rich program for all participants.

Community Initiatives

One of KROKODIL's noteworthy initiatives is 'Free the Streets/Free the People,' which aims to promote freedom of expression through public art, including murals in urban areas. This initiative responds to pressing societal issues such as violence and censorship while encouraging local communities to express themselves artistically.

Literary Residencies

Since 2012, KROKODIL has offered a unique Writer-in-Residence program in Serbia, providing writers from around the world the space and support to create. This initiative has fostered cross-cultural exchanges and enriched local literary discourse, allowing for a collaborative environment among international authors.

Research and Analysis

KROKODIL conducts valuable research and analysis in partnership with civil society organizations, addressing critical social issues such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the independent sector in the Balkans and the rise of violence in Serbia. Their findings are pivotal in shaping public discourse and policy.
