Nestled within the basement and summer garden of the Moderna Gallery, this café has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of coffee and uplifting the coffee culture in the region for over five years.
At Kavarna Moderna, coffee enthusiasts can indulge in a remarkable selection of freshly roasted beans, including varieties like Kostarika Linda Vista, Indonezija Sumatra Mandheling, and Kenya Kevote AB. Each 250g package is priced economically, ensuring that quality coffee is accessible. For those wanting to explore a broader range, a special tasting set of three 250g bags is available.
Cocktails and Evening Offerings
In addition to its specialized coffee, Kavarna Moderna has also embraced the craft cocktail movement, offering both classic coffee-infused cocktails and unique signature drinks. This melding of coffee culture and mixology sets Kavarna Moderna apart as a premier destination for both day and evening enjoyment.
Expanding its offerings, the establishment has opened a sister venue, Bar Ribarnica, at the Ljubljana market. Here, patrons can enjoy a daily coffee selection alongside a vibrant cocktail menu in the evenings.

Nice coffee at the cafe in the modern art museum basement. The set up is a bit confusing but you can either sit outside (and the waitress will serve you through the window) or enter the modern art museum and take the stairs into the basement to sit inside. Either way, I had an iced black coffee and it was very nice. Just the right level of caffeine and fruitiness.

Superb cafe, possibly the best one I’ve been to in a long time and I live in London. Great location, amazing interior, good coffee, cold wine and a sound system that looks like you could have a very good night out in there. The staff were super friendly. Nothing but good things to say about this place.

Najboljši cheesecake, odlična ponudba kave in koktejlov (priporočam morning sour), tudi domači ledeni čaji so izvirni in zelo osvežilni (kumarična limonada in cascara fizz). Lep prostor in prijazna postrežba.

Amazing vibe and pretty good specialty coffee. The location is also perfect! Situated in the museum of modern art you can visit some installments or even take a quick walk around the city park. I wish we stayed there longer and for drinks!
