We made the classic mistake: trusting the info board instead of doing a quick Google. I genuinely thought, how bad could it be? We did it in June. 30°C. The approach alone was a sweaty 40–50 minutes of steep uphill hiking just to reach the start. The ferrata itself was unlike any I’ve done before. Long, exposed, and surprisingly technical. I climbed it like a multipitch, hands on the rock, lots of scrambling. It felt like an easy 5 in sport climbing, with a few more technical bits thrown in. But if you’re someone who prefers to pull on the cable the whole way up, you'd probably save some energy (and get there faster). It took me about 2 hours to reach the top, and I was wrecked. But the real challenge was the descent. Steep, loose, rocky, lost of up and down, just relentless. Two hours of careful downclimbing, knee protests, and mild existential crisis. In total: 5 hours. Amazing views, classic type 2 fun. But I really wish the info board had mentioned the descent, it was brutal. Here’s what I’d say: -Prepare for a full-on day -Bring water, snacks, and durable knees -10/10 will laugh about it later, 1/10 would do it again on purpose

The via ferrata is fantastic – very well secured with pegs and cables. Proper via ferrata equipment is a must, as a few sections are quite challenging to pass. Light rain started about 10 minutes into the climb, so some parts became slippery. Regardless, I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in the area. The Crnopac mountain shelter and the "Mali Princ" trail are absolutely top-notch. Please be sure to leave around 10 euros at the shelter for maintenance – you never know when or where you might need one yourself. The water pump next to the Crnopac shelter works once you pour about half a liter of water into the top of it. I'm mentioning this because most people don't know that's how it works. I ended up on the via ferrata unexpectedly, but luckily, I had all the necessary gear with me. Thanks to everyone involved in building the via ferrata and the shelter – great job, team! Ova ferrata nimalo nije jednostavna ili lagana (kao omiška). Ima zeznutih djelova koji se mogu okarakterizirati kao C pa čak i D zbog glatkih stijena i mogućnušću penjanja samo trenjem pomoću sajle. Većinom je B ili čak A ili čak sajla nema smisla ponegdje...Ferrata nije laganica. Trebat ce vam oko 2,5 sata. Put do nje isto nije laganica, 50 tak minuta. A onda od Velikog bata pa do Velikog Crnopca - to je jako teško (oko sat). Stalno idete gore- dolje po strašnom terenu. Penjete se sa i klafnama i sa sajlama. Ljeti ni u ludilu ici ovdje. Pogled sa Crnopca predivan. Staza prema Prezidu loše markirana i to na mjestima na kojima bi trebala obvezno biti markacija - nema je. A tamo gdje ne treba, ima ih napretek.

So... if you are used to the French or Spanish Via Ferrata's, you need to know that this one is different. It's really REALLY long. It's a full day hike AND via ferrata in the middle of it which is also pretty long. It took us about and hour something to get to the Via Ferrata Part, then after about 3.5 hours more we still did not get to the top of the mountain so we decided to go back as we did this in March and continuing meant we would find ourselves on then mountain after dark. (And it still took us 3 hours to get back to the car). If you do not climb with the help of the cable (and use mainly the rock itself) so it takes longer... but perhaps here you are meant to use the cable and then it goes much faster... So be prepared for a full day. Start early. Take enough food and water and if possible, take a rope with you incase you do end up climbing down like we ended up doing... It is really pretty though...

Odlican tura, od samog uspona Velebitom prema ferati, sama ferata te put nazad (mi smo se odluciki grebenom prema malom Crnopcu), svaka preporuka.

Super Ferata koja nije preteška i zahtjevna. Po meni je teži uspon do nje i silazak 😂☺️ jako lijepi vidici i pozicije za slikat.
