Wonderful museum which I had almost to myself. One of the staff "Petra" spent a lot of time with me explaining some of the historical events that shaped modern Croatia, her time, knowledge and passion was very much appreciated. The museum covers many aspects of Maritime history with scale models of ships, paintings, engines/motors and many items related to seafaring traditional. Coming from England I was particularly interested in the room dedicated to the development of the first self-propelled torpedo perfected by the British engineer "Robert Whitehead" working in Rijeka. A small outdoor exhibition includes examples of traditional boat building, you also get good views across Split from the Fortress walls. Finally the self-operated VR show is not to be missed. An instruction manual is provided. A bit tricky to get going but once you've got the hang of it, well worth it. With the Stuka, submerged aircraft you really feel your underwater exploring the wreck and moving in three dimensions. For everything you get with this free VR show and exhibitions this museum is excellent value for money, and even a discount for Seniors.

Un super musée, peu connu des touristes et qui vaut le détour. Le musée est divisé en 2 parties une première sur la vie maritime civile et la seconde sur la partie militaire. Il y a de très beaux objets avec des costumes, des armes, des cartes, des figures croates célèbres. Autre point positif: le prix d'entrée est vraiment très bon marché (3€ en tarif plein) Le seul point négatif est que les informations sont uniquement en Croate et en anglais.

Excellent museum, well curated and lots of English info for those of us who don't speak Croatian. I enjoyed the exhibits. One of the better ones I've seen here. Wasn't very busy and there were some really good views.

Je n'ai pas trouvé d'intérêt à cet endroit. Très peu de textes sont traduits en anglais donc c'est compliqué d'apprendre quelque chose si on ne comprend pas la langue. Et globalement, ça ne donne pas envie : les objets sont mis là et peu mis en valeur.

Ein richtig tolles Museum – besonders für alle, die sich für Schifffahrt und Marinegeschichte interessieren! Ich war positiv überrascht, wie spannend und vielseitig die Ausstellung ist. Mein persönliches Highlight: die historischen Torpedos und die Infos zur Entwicklung maritimer Waffen – super interessant! Auch die alten Schiffsmodelle und Uniformen sind beeindruckend. Das Museum liegt in der Festung Gripe, was dem Ganzen noch mehr Atmosphäre verleiht. Definitiv ein Geheimtipp in Split
