At the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, we decided to spend our stay at Hotel Korkyra in Vela Luka. It is sutuated on the island of Korčula. In our search for an attractive location to celebrate New Year’s, we discovered Hotel Korkyra. The hotel offered a three-night package, including New Year's Eve, for €704.00 online. We booked it and didn't regret our decision. The drive to Korčula along the Adriatic coast is incredibly scenic, and we enjoyed views of the new Pelješac Bridge and the Korčula coast. Hotel Korkyra is located right in the heart of Vela Luka, just 20 meters from the port-sea. The hotel is aesthetically pleasing, and although it typically closes for winter, it opened its doors for guests during the ten days surrounding the New Year. Our room was well-appointed, featuring two small balconies, a comfortable bed, a TV with only two or three channels, a desk with a chair, and a small fridge. The highlight of our accommodation was undoubtedly the all-glass shower located in the centre of the room. While there are roll-down screens for privacy, who wouldn’t want to enjoy the unique experience of watching wife taking a shower every evening? The package we purchased included breakfast and dinner, along with a New Year’s celebration that featured live music. We can attest to the quality of the breakfasts and dinners—each dish was fresh, delicious, and served in generous portions. With about 60 guests, all couples, the feedback on food, service, and overall ambiance was overwhelmingly positive. The New Year's band kept the atmosphere lively and festive. The hotel also organized a walking tour of Vela Luka, led by a hotel employee who shared insights into the town's history and took us to its most important sites. During this tour, we visited a nearby konoba (a traditional Croatian tavern) where the owners treated us to homemade cookies, drinks, and their own olive oil, rakija (fruit brandy), wine, jam, and sweets. It was fascinating to learn that they have 500 olive trees and a vineyard. If you've ever gone olive picking (which we have), you would appreciate the monumental effort required to maintain and harvest 500 olive trees. On January 1st, the hotel organized a boat ride for all interested guests. The boat was parked right in front of the hotel, and the captain took us on a tour of the beautiful surroundings. The sea was crystal clear, the beaches were inviting, and the entire trip was very well received by everyone on board. On January 2nd, we enjoyed our last breakfast, which was once again rich and delightful, before checking out of the hotel. There’s a strong chance we will return in 12 months for another New Year’s celebration, despite a few minor complaints I had. The heating fan in the room was quite noisy, making it necessary to turn it off for a good night’s sleep. The TV had only two or three channels, and while the fridge was empty, we brought a few bottles of Jamnica and Cocta to solve that issue. Lastly, I thought the price of €704 for three days was a bit steep. I compared it to all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (€110 a day), Playa del Carmen, Mexico (€125 a day), and Sarasota, Florida (€140 a day). However, my wife pointed out that Hotel Korkyra's prices were in line with or lower than other offers in Opatija and Hvar, so I had to concede. Needless to say she always wins. Korkyra we'll see you again.
