We stayed at The Excelsior in May 2025. The hotel is situated on a cliff overlooking the town. We had a wonderful experience. Our first two nights we were in a fairly dark but spacious room, recessed into the hill. We were very pleased with the location, service, and water access at floor -2. It is an easy walk into the town of Dubrovnik. The hotel staff took care of the car. The breakfasts were awesome!! Our final night we were upgraded to a room with a view....unbelievable. Get one of these rooms if they are available. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel is 1/2 hour from the airport. This is a very nice hotel. Enjoy!!!!!

Beautiful hotel in the perfect location. Friendly staff who work really hard to serve their guests. Lovely gesture of bringing prosecco and a letter to our room for our honeymoon upon check in. Rooms were clean and beds were comfy. Spa experience also quite good. But the best part is the private beach. It’s undoubtedly the best spot to swim just outside of the old town with stunning views.

Nous venons de passer 3 nuits dans cet excellent hôtel. Nous avons voyagé en Croatie pour fêter notre trentième anniversaire de mariage et l'accueil a été parfait dans cet hôtel. Nous avons bénéficié d'une bouteille pour nous accueillir dans notre chambre. Un grand merci à Deni à la réception qui nous a indiqué la bonne chaîne de TV pour suivre la finale de la ligue des champions, de notre chambre. C'était très agréable de communiquer en anglais en ajoutant des mots en croate, vocabulaire de politesse de base. Le petit-déjeuner était excellent tout comme le repas pris au restaurant Sensus et la découverte culinaire des cannellonis du chef. La piscine intérieure, les jacuzzis et le hamam nous ont beaucoup plu. La situation géographique de l'hôtel est idéale et nous avions une chambre avec balcon avec vue sur mer. Les produits de toilette sont également de très grande qualité. Cet hôtel est une excellente adresse et nous reviendrons. Merci à tous

Das Hotel besitzt keinen Charme, ein moderner Hotelklotz und keine Bedachtnahme auf die regionale Baukultur. Die Preisgestaltung ist für das Gebotene keineswegs in Ordnung, kleine Zimmer zu horrenden Preisen, und noch dazu können sich die Preise ständig ändern . Die Lage ist Ok, es gibt jedoch keinen Shuttle zur Altstadt. Das Preis Leistung Verhältnis stimmt nicht und deswegen werde ich beim nächsten Besuch ein anderes Hotel wählen.

My first stay at Excelsior was 20 years ago and it was wonderful. Sadly, this hotel is now a shadow of its former glorious self. It’s now a mediocre hotel at a 5-star location. Let’s start with the reception: check-in and check-out were cold and unpleasant. Reception desk staff did nothing to make us feel welcome and comfortable. In the reception lobby there were glasses of water with lemon, but even though there seemed to be plenty of staff hanging around, no one bothered to offer it to us or other guests. How about offering some fresh towels, or offering customers a seat at check-in or some other form of hospitality? You get a more pleasant experience checking in at any average Marriott in America compared to this… We had 2 rooms on the 6th floor, really mediocre. We had a mattress sinking down on one side; I felt like I was about to roll down every night. Cheap shampoos in plastic bottles in the bathrooms, old hair dryer, bad lighting, shabby decor, no iron, just mediocrity at every level. Turndown service is a joke—they leave two chocolates, but don’t even close the blinds or set the lights or anything else. Cleaning is so-so. Found a dusty golf cap on the shelf in the closet, YUCK! The beds had thin covers with spare blankets in the closet (blankets - another yuck factor) and mediocre-quality bed sheets. Thermostat in the room has limited control (can’t adjust the temperature higher, they do it centrally). Breakfast was AWFUL, runny poached eggs and nothing on the buffet looked fresh. The piano bar and the terrace have the most uncomfortable furniture known to man - big lounge sofas with side chairs and low tables that are too far and too uncomfortable for conversation or tea. The piano bar terrace gets hot in the afternoon, umbrellas are too small and kept shut on windy days (which was most of the days during our 5-day stay). The indoor pool area is dark and damp with shutters to the beach kept shut even on sunny days. The beach area is nice and the beach guys are helpful, but they go missing for extended stretches of time, so guests are hauling and setting up chairs and umbrellas on their own. I carried the heavy umbrella stand to my mother after we waited for 20 min for someone to come set it up. There is a beautiful outdoor terrace behind the old wing, but no sitting area or anything. Positive things: staff at the piano bar and at the breakfast room were attentive and nice and efficient. Also great coffee and cocktails. Concierge was good too, organized a nice wine tour. Overall, I wish we had gone elsewhere. I wish the owners had decided to renovate and elevate Excelsior instead of Argentina and Villa Orsula (2 hotels next door to Excelsior, I stayed there before the renovation and they were magnificent). For the high prices they charge at Excelsior now, you get much much much more in 5-star hotels in France and Italy. Btw, Stayed at Excelsior in Sept 2024, posting this review late.

Positive: Breakfast Buffet Negative: Lots - the room was located right across from a janitor closet and he was hacking constantly - which we could hear loudly in the room. Further, the room doesn't have good insultation so we heard the cleaning staff, other guests, etc. Also, the gym was bad

Gran hotel. Muy bien situado y con vistas increíbles. Únicas pegas: el servicio del desayuno es muy insuficiente y puede ocurrir que termines el desayuno y no te hayan servido el café. La calidad del buffet es normalita.La coctelería es cara y no merece la pena. El Restaurante que tienen en el espigón es de lo mejor: comida sencilla, rica y en un marco increible.

We booked a package with a UK travel company and we’re unsure what to expect so were happy with the many excellent aspects of the hotel - though we found a couple of niggles which we were surprised at in a hotel at this price point.|The excellence came from:|The location (great views and easy walking distance to the old town).|The staff ( helpful, polite and always smiling).|A large range of options at breakfast including a hot food menu.|The size of the rooms - we were in a basic room but it was huge (the bathroom was twice the size of the whole room in a hotel we booked recently in London). No sea views for us and we overlooked the busy Frana Supila road but the room was mainly quiet.|The niggles:|The standard Brit complaint (though we usually find it in the USA) - tea at breakfast was a real hit and miss affair - a couple of times it was reasonably hot but mostly it was lukewarm - I gave up and got coffee.|The lighting in the wardrobe area was very poor. In particular using the safe - I resorted to using a torch.||We did not use the main restaurants or the indoor pool but had some food in the bar terrace which was good. The beach (really a dock) looked fine but I would expect you need to be a strong swimmer to swim in the sea.||One bit of advice, particularly for oldies like us. It took us until our last day (of 7) to realise that we could avoid the final uphill walk back to the hotel by taking the road down towards the lower level of the Villa part of the hotel and our hotel key-cards allowed us access.

One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in. Dubrovnik was the first city in Croatia I visited and it exceeded my expectations. The staff is extremely friendly, they helped me find my way around the city. The food in the restaurant by the sea is excellent. The only complaint is the fans which are noisy.

Couple spent several nights at the Excelsior in a villa Odak terrace room last month. Iconic views of the sea and the old town. Five minute walk to the old town and everything that has to offer. Room is a bit small but impeccably appointed. Bathroom, likewise, a bit small but has all the amenities one could need. Terrace is a good size, easily accommodating a couple of chairs and a small table. Breakfast came with all possible options and everything was fresh and tasty. You can also order anything a la carte as well. Service throughout the hotel was very good except one young lady serving the terrace who literally evaporated for almost 30 minutes. Finally had to go in and ask the barman for the bill. Only small complaint in an otherwise prefect 4 days. ||It is pricey, but worth it.

The Excelsior Hotel is situated in the most perfect spot to enjoy Dubrovnik. It is a 10-minute walk from the entrance to the old town, and situated right on the water with gorgeous views of Dubrovnik. It offers the perfect balance of being close to town, but not having to be immersed in its crowds. Our room was very comfortable, and again had those beautiful views from our balcony. Breakfast was tasty and - you guessed it - had beautiful views from the outside tables at the restaurant. This really is a top-notch hotel and an excellent choice for a visit to this beautiful city. It is pricey, however.

Luxury, Views, and Courteous People! The hotel is modern with tasteful decor. Our room was on floor 2 and we had an amazing view of Lokrum Island and the old ship harbor of the old town. The bed was extremely comfortable. It was May so the weather was cool enough to sleep with the window open. The sounds of the ocean waves crashing on the rocks below was perfect for a stress-free good night sleep. There are restaurants and shops nearby. The walk to the Old Town takes just a few minutes and has a great view of the ocean. Best of all, there is a pool right by the oceanside that uses the sea water to keep it full!

Everything at this place gets 5 stars except our check in. The food here at all of the restaurants was spectacular, especially down by the pool and the sea. The drinks are served just right and the service is impeccable. Easily walkable to everything just down the way, and the rooms are very nice and clean as well. I will give a 5 star because our experience made up for our check. The lady who checked us in, did not tell us anything about anything. The whole 5 minute thing you get would have been very appreciated. She was not warm and welcoming either. When checking into a place like this, I feel as though the service should be top notch. Everything else outweighed this experience. The spa was also amazing and would recommend if you are into that stuff. The views here are also to die for and could be a very romantic setting.

I had the best hotel experience during my stay in Dubrovnik. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially Ms. Dine (or Jane) — she was absolutely wonderful, proactive, and a true asset to the team. I sincerely congratulate the hotel for having her.The cleanliness of the hotel was impeccable — 100%. The location was also perfect — 100%. Services were of a very high standard.Breakfast was a joy, and the restaurant team was outstanding. They greeted every guest warmly and genuinely helped make each morning a pleasant start to the day.Everything about this hotel was exceptional. I will definitely return, and I strongly recommend staying here. It’s truly worth every cent.

Amazing location - 10 min walk to the old town and on the less busy side of town. |Our room was in the Villa odak and was great and had an incredible view of the sea and balcony. |Breakfast was very good and the staff were 10/10. |The hotel organised a car to collect us - expensive compared to a taxi but the driver was waiting for us, and collected us in a nice Mercedes and gave us a whole load of interesting information on the drive. |Only negative was some of the other guests who sat at breakfast for an hour or so at sea view tables on laptops taking conference calls and others sat on mobiles discussing very loudly their stock and share performance… very odd when there are plenty of other places in the hotel they could sit in quiet areas and not disturb others… but maybe they wanted to look important…!|If in Dubrovnik I recommend restaurant Marco Polo - very good and only 10-12 min walk from the hotel. |Totally recommend the hotel and we will be back soon I hope!

My husband and I are currently enjoying a 7 day stay. The staff are absolutely wonderful, friendly and helpful. The breakfast has plenty of choices, you can help yourself to yoghurts, fruit, cereals. Pastries, meats and cheese, and then choose from a menu of cooked breakfast, eggs, omelettes, bacon, ham, eggs Benedict all freshly cooked. The piano bar is lovely for a cocktail in the evening and some really nice bar food available all day. The Sensus restaurant is excellent too, the staff are super efficient. |Our room with a partial sea view is quite large, 604, and is located in the newer building, house keeping keep the room in tip top condition, comfortable beds and pillows and is spotless, shower gels. Shampoo, hand wash etc is provided too. A coffee pod machine and a kettle in the room and a handy tiny supermarket across the street to buy your milk. There is a mini bar refrigerator to pop your milk in. Large flat screen tv, large wardrobes and drawers and extra wooden hangers were provided as I had over packed! |The staff are wonderful and we shall definitely be back.
