Alles in allem, 5 Sterne erfüllt ☀️✌️

July 2025, 12 nights half board. It’s a mixed review for this hotel. Having been traveling from 4am we arrived at the hotel at 1pm, in 35 degrees for them to say you can’t check in till 3pm. I’ve never had that before on a package holiday. Most of the staff were lovely but a few of them spoilt it for them. My example is this, I like to keep my room on until I am being picked up. I went to reception to book it at 15 euros per hour. The receptionist wasn’t very friendly and said I couldn’t do it until the day before departure. Knowing this to be wrong, I emailed the hotel who said I need to do it ASAP. I went back to the reception and spoke to the other person on duty, and she said sure no problem, a few clicks on the keyboard and it was done, and I didn’t need to pay right then as it was charged to my room.
At dinner there is no provided water, again I have never come across this before, you had to buy their water at 5 euros a bottle and you couldn’t take your own water in.
If you timed it wrong at dinner you could be queuing at the buffet for 10 minutes just to get close to it. And some families let their young children go to pick at the food, no hygiene was observed sometimes they picked up food with their hands and placed it back.
The food was average with very little variation throughout our stay.
On my first night I ordered my favourite holiday drink, a Manhatton. The lady that made it was making it from instructions on a spreadsheet. It never once came into contact with any ice and no cherries. It was warm and made with JD the cheapest bourbon on the market. it was the worst Manhattan I had ever had, to the point I could not drink it, and I paid 11 euros for it!
As for the hotel it is very clean and tidy room service isn’t brilliant just basic! The communal areas are kept immaculate.
The pool area is very clean and tidy. We never struggled to find sunbeds, but if you want a prime spot, it’s a 7am-7.15 start. Thankfully we weren’t bothered. Towels were provided for you every day. Our little treat was an ice cream about midday. They were 2 euros for an ice cream. With 2 days to go they put them up by 50%! Its just greed! Out of principle we walked an extra 50 yards and had a bigger better one.
This isn’t what I expect from a 5-star hotel. I think this hotel just about scraps it to a 4-star hotel.
Would I use this hotel again? Probably not, I know it sounds petty but the no water with my meal drove me insane. My water bill for evening meal on check out was 70 euros.

Grand Admiral Slano sits in a very beautiful picturesque spot with plenty of beds and parasols on the shingle beach. You do need sea shoes or snorkel shoes as it's very sharp under foot.|Food was good but not particularly varied so we are out a couple of times. |No night life at all so don't take your teenagers...|Harbour is lovely as many yachts moor up regularly. Thursday and Sunday head to the square for live music. 5 mins from hotel. |Reception staff tend to shrug their shoulders if you have any complaints. We unfortunately had a non balcony room, and the laziest of maids possible. First two mornings all she did was fold our bed sheet into a rectangle, no fluffing of pillows and no washing of coffee cups. We asked reception if this was right and while we were out for dinner some one came in and properly made the beds and washed the cups. But the next day our bed wasn't made. The sheet was just laid full length on top of bed. Quite comical really but not funny when you have paid to stay at a five star hotel. |Unfortunately for this hotel we had just come from our first ever 1 week cruise and feel we were very spoilt, as our cabin boys left us towel animals and chocolates every day. A far cry from the 5 star grand Admiral. But we love Croatia. We took a boat from Slano to Dubrovnik old town which is just an amazing place. The boat boys were very friendly, compared to polite but wooden staff at hotel. |Our bathroom sink area was also not cleaned. All other hotels we have stayed at in the last 30 years of travelling you always come back to find your sink area cleaned and tidied. Not here....

Lovely hotel, amazing views in a lovely quiet bay! We visited before heading to Dubrovnik and it was very chilled. The beach was great, free sunloungers with a wonderful outlook.||The buffet was ok- we suffer from coeliac and the allergens were not clear and we struggled to find any variety from breakfast to dinner. ||There was little in terms of evening entertainment, our last night there was a pianist which was lovely, although placed inside and was finished by 10pm. Some consistent low key music would really impact the guests as people seemed a little lost as to how to spend their evening.||We rented a self drive boat from nearby which we would highly recommend, this was separate from the hotel.||The cleaners were really hard working and it was spotless.

A quiet location. The hotel is the main facility, there is a very nice restaurant next to it and two small shops for water. Private sea front location. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Cost of drinks similar to the Uk. We did a number of the massages and they were all excellent.

This hotel is rated at 5 stars. I’ve never stayed in a poorer 5 star establishment. The room is decent with air conditioning but hardly any space to hang clothes in the wardrobe. The room is very clean. |The pool and cobble beach area - beautiful setting but boring after an hour. Guests and non guests reserve sun beds very early in the morning. |Food - it’s blah … some decent dishes and some poorly cooked dishes. Breakfast might be the worst I’ve experienced. Coffee from machine is rank. Orange juice is not fresh. Only positive would be the croissants.|Evening Entertainment - ZERO|I booked this hotel after a 7 day cruise thinking I would relax after my party time on cruise. There’s relaxing and there is pure and utter boredom.|There’s a couple of restaurants that serve drink but they are filled with people smoking like chimneys (and they say the people from UK are unhealthy) . |Staff are generally quite awkward. Staff in local shop are rude. |TUI rep was helpful at meeting. We booked a few trips because we were so bored.

This hotel is in a beautiful location. Unfortunately that's all it has to offer. If you want any life at all please choose carefully. There is nothing happening at all, nothing in the hotel and very little in the surrounding village. I have been to many hotels over the years and this has to be the quietest i have ever been to. Even the bar shut at 11!!! Drinks are very very expensive and there really is no atmosphere at all. People don't mix or talk as there is no real communal area. Please think carefully before booking, as if you want to sit on a lounger all day and be in bed straight after dinner then it might be for you. however it wasn't for me!

We are currently staying at the Admiral Grand Hotel in Slano, and this is our last night after a 4-night stay. I’m writing this review mid-stay to reflect the full picture, not just the departure impression. We chose this hotel expecting a 5-star luxury experience, and paid €300+ per night. Unfortunately, this hotel does not meet 5-star standards — we would rate it at best a low 4-star property based on quality, service, and hospitality.||🍽️ Food & Beverage – Well Below 5-Star Standards|Breakfast: Limited variety, and far from premium. Warm items like bacon, eggs, and omelettes were either undercooked or cold. Coffees from machines and brewers were undrinkably sweet, and fruit juices were clearly made from concentrate—despite being advertised as fresh. Zero variety between mornings.||Dinner: Repetitive and uninspired. Seafood options were passable, but red meats were often poorly cooked and tough, and vegetables were consistently overcooked. Worse, we witnessed leftovers being reused — e.g., mussels one night appeared in a strange cold salad the next.||Water Policy: No complimentary water at meals — you must pay for bottled water, and it’s 5x the retail price. Local wines were heavily overpriced. We fully understand that hotels charge margins, but this felt excessive and off-putting.||🧑🤝🧑 Service & Hospitality – Inconsistent and Often Unpleasant|Some staff members, especially the beach crew and restaurant servers, were genuinely kind and professional.||However, several others, especially at reception, displayed dismissive or indifferent attitudes. One night manager was helpful, but another watched our discussion with staff with clear disapproval, as if we were unwelcome guests — despite paying premium rates.||We were refused two small glasses of ice, told “one per room is the rule,” and had to return later for another. We were also denied a basic knife to cut fruit in our room. These small yet ridiculous policies reflect poor customer service culture, not luxury hospitality.||We asked for fresh bed sheets after two days and were told "they are changed daily" — which was clearly untrue.||🛏️ Rooms & Maintenance – Poorly Maintained and Poorly Designed|Our room layout was awkward, with a narrow entry where you could easily bump into the wall or the furniture.||The bathtub was unusable due to weak water pressure and a clogged drain. After reporting it, we were told it had been “fixed.” It wasn’t — and we didn’t get to use the tub at all.||Soundproofing was very poor. Noise easily traveled through the walls and hallway.||Despite requests, bed linens remained unchanged, and housekeeping was inconsistent at best.||🏖️ The Positives – Beautiful Setting & Friendly Beach Staff|The location is fantastic, and Slano Bay is absolutely stunning.||Beach crew were outstanding — friendly, helpful, and attentive.||Convenient bus stop right outside the hotel makes it easy to reach Dubrovnik.||Towels and loungers were well managed, though there was no active lifeguard present at any point, which is surprising for a hotel of this category.||Restaurant staff did their best under what appears to be rigid and unsupportive management.||❗ Final Thoughts|The Admiral Grand Hotel may look like a 5-star resort in photos, but it fails to deliver the expected quality or service. From poor food and overpriced drinks, to rude reception policies and lack of essential amenities — the experience is far from what €300–350/night guests should receive.||The setting is beautiful, and some staff deserve praise, but management needs a serious re-evaluation of what modern 5-star hospitality means. Until then, we would not recommend this hotel for travelers expecting a true luxury experience.

Schöner, angenehmer Aufenthalt, aber kein 5 Sterne Hotel. Eher ein maximal 4 Sterne Hotel.
Service sehr gut. Zimmerservice gut und sauber
Leider sind die Getränke Preise sehr teuer
Cola: 0,25 l - 4 Euro, Bier: 0,33 l - 4,50 Euro etc.
Genug Liegen und Schirme am Strand vorhanden. Keine Reservierung morgens nötig.
Strand direkt vor dem Hotel.
Essen in Ordnung

We do not think this hotel warrants 5* status. As many say the hotel is in a prime location and pleasant enough but we found the following not acceptable for a 5*.|There is no pastry shop, not really a piano lounge and not sure what they mean by a taverna. We had a kettle that we had to stand on a paper basket to plug in with only two sachets of coffee, no milk for the week. Thinking of a cocktail then hope you are not disappointed. My Cherry Cherry Lady came without any cherries in a tumbler which you could easily take for a Ribena cordial! Don't think about waiter service for your evening drinks as you need to go to the bar yourself. We arrived at 8.00 pm with no complimentary bottle of water. As there are no reps on coaches we were not sure what the state of the water was to drink, fortunately it is very good. We had evening entertainment twice in the week. Described as buffet breakfast - fine but we then were expecting waiter service for our evening meal.|Relaxing stay which could have been much better if more attention was given to these details

Recently returned from a pleasant and enjoyable two week stay here, our second time.||Lots to be pleased with, but a few niggles though.||The hotel is spotlessly clean and has its own private (sort of) beach with ample sunbeds and umbrellas for all. Obviously, the best spots get taken up quickly but most days there were spots available up to lunchtime. Beach is pebbles so you really do need beach shoes. The sea is calm and lovely for swimming in. We didn’t use the outdoor pool but it was popular at all times of the day. Indoor pool looked nice but when we popped our head in the door it felt very warm in there and there were quite a lot of young children playing in the pool. Spa looked ok, but we did not use.||There’s a small games room with table football and a pool table, gift shop and also a gym with a reasonable amount of equipment.||The main atrium is well air-conditioned and a nice place to sit later in the evening with a drink. There’s little entertainment, only a chap playing piano one evening, a female singer outside another, then a themed Dalmatian evening with a local band going around playing tunes. So, it’s a not a lively place, in fact most evenings there were only a handful of people in and around the bar area beyond 9.30pm.||Breakfast is standard continental style. No complaints. Evening meal is buffet and is very much meat/fish and vegetables orientated. Salads were available too, but it just lacked a little variety overall. Nice to see some pasta dishes a couple of evenings, but then other evenings there was plain pasta and no sauces. Very odd. The main issue with the restaurant is the staffing. Three or four evenings we waited an absolute age for our drinks order to be taken, and on one of those we never even got drinks. Drinks around the hotel are expensive. During the day we avoided the pool bar as we could go to the local shop/kiosk and get a beer and soft drink for less than half the price and with greater volume. We had a concern about the pool bar too that they were happy for glasses to be taken onto the beach and in/around the pool – I think plastic would have been much safer.||Slano is a beautiful place. Stunning mountain backdrop and a pretty village with several churches, a couple of museums, a nice marina, a handful of shops and a couple of restaurants. There are a couple of bars on one side of the bay, another on the other side. All staff at these were friendly and prices much better than the hotel. We did a few pleasant evening walks stopping off for drinks after dinner. The air conditioning in the hotel was welcome on our return though. There are boat trips from the small harbour and we did one to Dubrovnik which was best part of two hours each way with 3 hours to explore the city. Well worth the money that trip was. On another day we booked the Jet2 trip to Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina, thankful we were the last pick up in the morning and first drop off at the end of the day. A good day out, spoilt a little by a 30 minute wait at the border in each direction. ||Our room was nice. Partial sea view with a nice balcony. A kettle was provided but only a couple of tea bags and coffee sachets which are not replaced if used. Air-conditioning worked fine for us. The cleaners come around each day and whilst they make your bed and tidy up a little in the bathroom, not much else is done.||So overall an enjoyable and relaxing stay and the hotel is ideal if you are looking for peace and quiet (caveat below). It brands itself as 5 stars, but that’s probably more to do with its facilities and location including the spa rather than a reflection of service and standard of accommodation. It’s a good hotel, but not special. Location is superb, but not a place to keep children entertained.||Our only niggles were the issue getting drinks in the restaurant a few evenings, and the attitude of some of the staff. It sometimes felt very formal and impersonal, particularly in the restaurant and on reception. Staff at the bar were great once you got them to come out of their shells a bit. On arrival at 12.30pm reception staff were very non-plussed about us, with a simple “check in is at 3.00pm, put your cases over in the luggage room and come back at 3.00pm”. Not a very nice welcome. I am sure some rooms would have been available but they wouldn’t even check for us. They relented at about 2.30pm for us when we smiled sweetly and said please a few times. Even on check out, they took our room keys and not a word was asked if we’d had a nice stay. Oh, and be aware that there is a tourist tax charged at 1.80 euros a day per person, something we were not aware of until check out. ||Our only other issue was other guests, particularly some English. There’s a broad range of nationalities staying at the hotel most of whom are behaved well. It was always the English, mostly from the south, who were often foul mouthed, shouting at each other, not being considerate of other guests, not reading the room that this was a quiet, relaxing location, where customers go to get away from it all. Luckily this wasn’t every day, presumably when they went off on day trips instead.||Would we return? Yes, probably. It’s one of those places where all the boxes are pretty much ticked for us, so it’s one to have in the back pocket for future years if we decide to go back to Croatia.
