Fine - until I got punched in the face by a regular (to be assumed he was because staff knew his name).
Avoid at all cost until they sort out their clientele (at least at night. During the day it seems like a normal divey café).
Quite a surreal experience. This place is just behind the hostel in a hip area and I came for a late beer. The bar was empty and it looked like they were about to close. But they served me friendly and we even had a quick chat. Then it suddenly became like a sort of lock-in party. More and more people came and it looked like the local crowed. At one point a guy started to smack three guys on the bench next to me in the head. First, I thought it was some kind of joke but he was going for it. Nobody did anything and even the victims were passive. So I got up and told him to stop. That earned me a first whack. I stumbled back a bit, took my phone and tried to take a picture (took that short video by accident). He came at me again, slapped the phone out of my hand and when I tried to pick it up he unleashed. At that moment I was just covering my head. The only person trying to stop him was the girl from the bar although quite a few big guys were standing around. This is a small place, there's no way they didn't see what was happening.
Everyone's behaviour was quite odd. Staff seemed to know the guy since they yelled his name.
Once he stepped back I had to ask for the door to be unlocked so I could leave. I told one of the guys that took the first hits and was bleeding under his eye to call the police but he refused mumbling something about "community" or so. I called them myself and while I was waiting, staff unlocked the door again and let the guy walk off in all tranquility.
The police took my details and spoke with staff briefly but of course nothing else happend.
I've been to Ljubljana a few times and this episode and behaviour doesn't do the city and its lovely people any justice. Always experienced it as a great place but, unfortunately, I believe this story needs to be shared.
To the people in charge: if you recognise this person (and I think you do), you should report him to police yourself.
