ITS-Z1 is an independent art space and laboratory designed for creative exchange between artists and scientists from across the globe. Founded by Serbian-Australian-American artist Dragan Ilic, the facility is based in both New York and Belgrade, with the aim of fostering new ideas and promoting cultural interaction on an international scale.
The project serves as a unique platform for the Belgrade community, allowing audiences to engage with an eclectic mix of artists, scientists, theorists, and media experts at the forefront of innovation. Launched in May 2007 with its inaugural event titled “Art, Body and Technology,” ITS-Z1 continues to host a variety of performances, presentations, and discussions to stimulate intellectual discourse and creativity.
ITS-Z1 features an array of dynamic programming opportunities that encourage collaboration and experimentation. Notable past events include discussions on pressing themes such as identity, technology, and the human condition, exemplified in the “Circulating Flesh” series, which explored the intersections of art and the biological body.
ITS-Z1 is committed to advancing global cultural interaction through its innovative approach to the arts. By bringing together an international pool of talents, the site enables meaningful conversations that challenge existing paradigms and promote new perspectives on contemporary issues. The space thrives on diversity and aims to bridge gaps between different forms of knowledge and artistic expression.
