We stopped by the Church of St. Francis – Podprag on our way up to Tulove Grede, and it’s definitely worth a quick visit. Built back in 1832 by Emperor Francis I to mark the new road connecting north and south Croatia, it’s packed with history even though it’s a small, simple church.
The famous altar painting of St. Francis receiving the stigmata isn’t here anymore (it’s now in Split’s Museum of Fine Arts), but the church still has a peaceful, meaningful feel to it. The road up is rocky and unsealed, but manageable – we had the kids with us and it was no problem. Parking is just on the side of the road, and it’s an easy stop before continuing up to Tulove Grede.
We also tied it in with a visit to Luka Modrić’s birthplace – a great little history-filled outing for the whole family.

Lohnt einen Stopp. Die tempelartiges Kirche, das verfallene Kloster mit Zisterne und der Blick in die atemberaubende Landschaft sind einfach schön.
