Awful experience and horrible people. Rented through Avis "Budget" via British Airways, so expected a reputable company to deal with. How wrong could we be. Immediately on collecting the car, we were offered a choice between two deposits: €1,100 (!) or €417. Neither of these charges had been mentioned at any stage of the booking process - we believed the booking to be fully prepaid. For the higher deposit amount, we were told that we would get the whole deposit back however the agent on collection told us that deposits are "almost never returned as we will withhold the entire amount for any damage whatsoever" and that even if it was returned "it normally takes 4-5 weeks". The language used was not just rude, but blatantly threatening. If we paid the lower deposit amount which he was desperate to upsell us to, we were told we would get back €200 immediately on return and that we would not be liable for any minor damage, so we accepted this offer and accepted that the rental would cost €217 more than we planned, changing it from cost effective to extremely expensive. Not much of a choice though when compared to €1100 which we probably wouldn't get back. To add insult to injury, we were told on returning the car that the €200 would be withheld for 7-14 days, so the line about returning it immediately was simply a lie. An excellent lesson in how to be ripped off. Avoid.

J’ai loué une voiture via Booking, deja payé avant d’arriver. En récupérant la voiture à l’agence, ils me chargent sans me prévenir 39€ par jour d’assurance supplémentaire. Ne me préviennent pas, ne me fournisse pas le contrat et me prélève 475€ une fois rentré en France. Ce sont des voleurs, qui vous arnaque consciemment. Personnels fourbes et pas du tout professionnel. Passer votre chemin, agence à surtout éviter!!!!

ARNAQUEURS!!! Ils nous ont pris 370€ en rendant une voiture car ils disaient qu’on pouvait la rendre comme ça avec la vitre cassée car un fou nous l’avait cassé ils nous ont dit qu’on pouvait la rendre avec la vitre cassée et ils nous ont pris 370 €!!! Et en plus c’était marqué sur leur site Opel Corsa et on avait eu une Renault CLIO et ils nous l’ont donné avec la voiture remplis même pas à moitié !!! A fuir

I wish I could give them 0 rating. Biggest scammers in the history of Avis. I rented a car for 3 days and it was 99 euros. I told them my credit card is gonna take care of the insurance and collision waiver and what not. The guy at the counter said yeah no problem. Explained to me that I'll have a 99 euros charge on the card + a 400 euros deposit. Specifically told me I'm declining the collision waiver and the insurance and made me sign it on the iPad. I returned the car three days later and then I see an additional charge of 163 euros on my credit card. When I call them and tell them this, they say I damaged the car and then blocked me. I had to go through my old signed copy of the agreement to find out that they had snuck in an additional 163 euros for insurance without notifying me at any step. This was a huge learning for us but also it's horrible that they're doing it in broad daylight. Please be careful.

Absolute scam of a business. Should have read all these horrible reviews before renting but usually have a fine experience with Avis. Small scratch right next to a bunch of other scratches that were already there got quoted at €1200. Have been through this enough times using both Avis and other companies to know that is not the cost and that they are pulling a predatory and greasy scheme to take your money. Shady business activity. Avoid.

Je ne peux pas mettre moins, agence à fuir absolument ! Des arnaqueurs pas d'autres mots ! Ils font signer sur un support numérique la location de la voiture sans avoir accès aux "options" que le vendeur a lui même coché ! Options qui ont biensur été refusé au préalable. Mais coché quand meme
...
Suite à la restitution du véhicule ils font un prélèvement ultérieur grâce au numéros de la carte bleu utilisé pour la caution.
Une véritable arnaque ! Nous n'en resterons pas là.

At Check-in, I paid more for a VW Polo that did not existed and I got an Opel Corsa. And was sold an insurance for "ferry rides" that was non-sense (my bad).
At Check-out, I ask EXPLICITLY "do I have any extra charges?" and I got as an anwser "No extra charges", and I signed of good will.
When confirming the invoice in my e-mail, later on, I had EXTRA CHARGES.
I was scammed by the employee at DUB Airport of Avis.
LESSON LEARNED: Always check invoice before signing, even if they say there are no extra charges.
I am now under a complaint process with AVIS, will see.

Absolutely no issues. Fast and efficient service with polite staff. We booked using our own insurance, so there were no extra costs — everything was transparent and affordable. Just a heads-up: drive carefully, as the roads in Dubrovnik are very narrow and parking can be quite tricky.

@Budget unfairly charged me €1,573! On November 10, 2024, I rented a car in Podgorica, Montenegro. Despite having CDW insurance, Budget withheld my deposit over a minor scratch. After a 3-month dispute, customer service (Case: 69536454) rejected my claim.
I highly recommend staying away from @Budget especially if you want to rent a car in Montenegro. They won't help you if you have a problem. They don't care about their customers. So their local franchise scammers(!) can charge you unfairly!!!
The customer service is quite rude and doesn't care about the customer at all. They respond like you are not worthy.
Here I attached the photo of the scratch and the repair invoice they claimed to have paid. It's a Renault Clio. How can that be expensive!!!
I need justice, nothing more!!!!

Des voleurs déguisés en loueurs !
Location effectuée du 01/07/2025 à Dubrovnik au 07/07/2025 à Zadar. Comme beaucoup d’autres clients, nous avons été prélevés de 277€ pour une assurance que nous avions expressément refusée lors de la réservation en ligne.
C’est une arnaque bien rodée : au moment du check-in, ils vous font signer un document où le montant total est volontairement flou. Aucun mot sur une assurance supplémentaire. Et pourtant, vous vous retrouvez à la fin avec une facture salée, et un prélèvement non autorisé.
Leur prix est attractif sur le papier, mais ils se rattrapent avec des frais cachés, une pratique malhonnête et délibérée.
Ce n’est pas une erreur, c’est du vol organisé, et tout est fait pour que vous ne puissiez pas vous défendre.

Ojalá hubiese leído antes los comentarios de Google. Efectivamente a mi también me colaron la cobertura de seguro ampliada. 100 euros que me han estafado. Nadie, repito NADIE me mencionó siquiera este seguro y me lo pusieron. 1100 euros de fianza y 100 de seguro. En principio pensé que los 100 euros "extra" serían los que correspondían a la gasolina presente en el depósito en el momento de recoger el coche.
2 consejos si vas a coger Avis.
- Ten en cuenta que no cobran el depósito de gasolina lleno cuando recoges el coche así que si te cobran ni que sea un euro más de lo que debería ser la fianza, CUIDADO. Te la pueden estar colando.
- Busca las malditas siglas RSN. Esto es el seguro con el que te quieren timar. Además te lo ponen como "Additional Charges **" y si sigues los asteriscos verás debajo que pone "Included RSN"
Claro ahora pretendo reclamar a la empresa y es su palabra contra la mia y ya sabemos quien acaba ganando en estos casos. ¿Como defiendo que no me quisieron decir nada de nada de un producto que se me cobró? Es que si me llega a pasar algo con el coche ni habría sabido que podría hacer uso de este producto que me habían hecho pagar.
Sois unos timadores. Definitivamente jamás volvería a alquilar un coche con esta empresa. Vergonzoso, ni que fueran a comisión.

Avis Dubrovnik is a dishonest company and booking.com knows about it and continues to rent their cars.
I rented a car in Dubrovnik through booking.com. I paid for the rental + for full car insurance. I flew to Dubrovnik. I found a rental company (a shack in the parking lot). The gentleman gave me 3 A4 pages to sign. Since I often rent cars, I signed it. After returning the car, 150 euros disappeared from my card. I started looking and it turned out that Avis had added full insurance for the second time (the first time I paid through booking.com) without informing me. Of course, I was unaware of the trap and signed the documents and that was it.
I advise everyone not using Avis and not renting cars through booking.com.
