Welcome to the Rio Grappling Club, where our passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) transcends borders. Founded by renowned black belt Roberto Atalla in 2003 within SOAS University of London, our club has grown significantly and now boasts a network across four continents: Africa, Asia, America, and Europe.
The club is driven by the expertise of our leaders, Roberto Atalla, a 5th-degree black belt, and Mauro Chueng, a 4th-degree black belt. Both are students of the esteemed Master Sergio Bolao Souza, who trained under Carlson Gracie Sr.
Since its inception, the Rio Grappling Club has expanded from a small sports society into a remarkable global presence, now operating schools in 18 countries. We are dedicated to empowering individuals through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling, fostering personal growth and development beyond martial arts.
Our mission is clear: to create a safe and welcoming environment where individuals from all backgrounds can train, learn, and grow through BJJ. We strive to help our students enhance their life skills, embody the spirit of persistence, and build courage as they navigate the challenges of training.
At Rio Grappling Club, we embrace the philosophy that BJJ is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or residence. However, we acknowledge that the journey of training can be tough, often requiring commitment and determination. We do not support diluted training programs; instead, we prepare our students for the realities of martial arts.
As a global sports organization, the Rio Grappling Club is dedicated solely to the advancement of martial arts, refraining from involvement in political or religious matters. We believe in the unifying power of sports, promoting equality and camaraderie among all individuals.
Join us in exploring diverse aspects of grappling with our recent posts covering different rule sets, competition insights, and more. At the Rio Grappling Club, we believe that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not just a sport; it's a way of life – #BJJ4LIFE.
