Discover the Okićnica Educational Trail

The Okićnica Educational Trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich history and natural beauty of the Samobor area. Opened in 2017, this newly established 2.5-kilometre circular trail begins at the Maks Plotnikov mountain hut and winds its way around the historic Old Town of Okić, which sits at an elevation of 499 metres above sea level.

Trail Highlights

Along the path, travelers will encounter ten educational signs, each narrating the story of one of the oldest preserved nobleman towns in continental Croatia. These informative markers detail the town's strategic significance in protecting the Croatian kings from invasions as well as its eventual decline following the cessation of Turkish attacks.

The trail also delves into the geological history of the region, highlighting archaeological findings that predate Croatian settlement in the area. Additionally, visitors will learn about the way of life in Old Town Okić up until the early 20th century.
