A Glimpse into History

Inhabited since ancient times, Lindar features solid walls, stone houses, and significant historical architecture. The bell tower, named after Catholic saints St. Mohor and Fortunato, stands prominently, marking the village's history as a fortress that once protected Pazin Castle. Notably, Lindar was the site of a pivotal moment in history when 47 soldiers led by Captain Lazarić successfully reclaimed Istria from the French army, reinforcing its historical importance.

Cultural and Architectural Highlights

At an altitude of 454 meters above sea level, Lindar is home to the old Catholic Church of St. Catherine built in 1392, showcasing remarkable Glagolitic inscriptions and a stunning fresco painted in 1409. This artwork illustrates the Crucifixion and creatively depicts the arms of the cross transforming into lifelike hands, alongside scenes revealing the Kiss of Judas.

Furthermore, the iconic 19th-century villa near the church attracts visitors with its monumental architecture, including a battlement that offers breathtaking panoramic views. The remnants of a former town loggia from the 17th century and an old cannon preserve the essence of Lindar's vibrant past.

Culinary Tradition

Lindar also has a rich viniculture legacy, particularly noted for producing the excellent wine variety Borgonja in the 19th century, prized as one of the best grape types and served all the way to Vienna during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
