Great load of facilities and staff. Three nights of the week no inclusive evening meals. This helps support the restaurants of the local town. Good Gluten Free options at all meals as well as lists of main 14 allergens.

So holiday stay not fully over yet, but found time today to complete this review due to the strom which arrived this morning . The flight with Open Air (i think thats who it was) was ok, its just a cheap airline, so no frills and limited organisation at Gatwick airport, the queue was a bit chaotic to do bag drop and collect boarding pass. When arrived, very small airport, so limited delays and onto the coach. Not sure about the numbers as the coach we were on, about an additional 15 people tried to get on, no seats and then got taken off. Transfer to hotel, were all asked to download their app, rather pointless as non functional until you have a hotel room number. Arrival at the resort after about 45 mins, was advised to send 1 person to reception desk to check in while the others waited for the bags and then found a welcome drink, very much needed. Got to the room, was very basic, for the price paid, was expecting a bit more. 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. No balcony and no windo in the bathroom which wouldn't have been a problem if there was some kind of extraction fan, but nothing. 3 of us in the party, i had the double, father and som had the singles. Towels changed every day, but not the toilet roll. Had to ask for more from reception, point to add, it was very cheap paper, hence the need to use more than normal for the same result. Generally there are plenty of beds, as long as you dont need to be round the pools. I get that the hotel has kids clubs, but difficult to get away from them at times, either in the social areas or in the pools. The activities were good, the instructors were knowledgeable and friendly, if you spoke to them first. Could be their age, or just tired/lack of social skills, but never (that i recall) did they speak first. We took part in all activities accept tennis and climbing, 7 nights was probably too much, 5 would have been better. Were told at the welcome meeting that anything less than a 7 is not good enough, well sorry, based on the price, this for us was only a 6 (at best). 3 nights we had no food provided, so that was extra. Any drink with meals (apart from tea, coffee and juice in the morning) you had to pay for. The beer price was €7, whereas the price in the local restaurants and bars was closer to €4, so kind of a rip off here as well. Things we didn't like: paying for anything other than water. The broken, damaged crazy golf. The basic room. Lack of quality evening entertainment, when there was aome, their technology/equipment let them down (constantly). Bed booking, plenty of beds during all times with towels and no people. Would i go to a Neilson holiday again, nope, not for me, i do prefer a better value holiday, this was over priced, additional expenses and lacking quality. Oh cleanliness also wasnt great. There was green algae/mold in the pools behind the steps, the spa, which we used most days at times smelt of moldy wood, whirl pool not functioning while we were there. Resistance pool emptied for deep clean . Oh and one night (Sunday) the aircon in the room stopped. Spoke to reception at 9:45, they said maintenance would come to the room, at 10:30 no maintenance so went to reception again who informed me that maintenance had been on the computer and it should be working, when i explained that it wasnt and why didnt they check, they advised that nothing could be sorted now, as the maintenance leave at 10pm, very disappointed. Transfer tomorrow afternoon, may update this then and night get some pics to add to this if i can be bothered, Edit: additional photos added of just some of the areas which need attention.

I think most of the reviews speak for themselves, but briefly, the food, rooms, staff, facilities, & entire holiday is amazing!! In previous reviews, I hadn’t seen much about climbing, so I thought I’d talk about that and how well Neilson facilities this. We chose Alana Beachclub due to its close proximity to Paklenica National Park, as some of our crew are climbers. The park is a 20 minute walk from the hotel, however a 50 minute walk to the main climbing crags. It’s €10 for an adult to enter the park, however deals are available for multi day passes. The guide book for the park can be purchased at the souvenir shop (€35), which can be found after the tarmac road turns into a stone/gravel track, the shop is carved into the rock. The main climbing is around the shop, and is very accessible, with routes ranging from 3 to “9?”. Our group had a range of climbing ability, from novice to fairly experienced, however a knowledge of outdoor lead climbing is fairly necessary if you want to head out by yourself. A 60m rope will do most of the single pitch routes, however bringing a 70 or 80m rope may be more advantageous. We brought around 15 quickdraws but never use more than 11 at a time. Shoes, helmets, harnesses, the usual are required. I would suggest bringing a designated carabiner for clipping onto the anchor, just so you’re not using the anchors carabiner all the time, they don’t like it when you keep top roping on their gear as it wears it down much quicker, be considerate. As for the Neilson input that enabled us to have an even better time, the welcome meeting gave us all the information we needed to get clued up. I would suggest using a bike to get there and back, it’ll shave about 15-20 minutes off the journey to the park, and then 40 minutes on the way back and it’s then all downhill. All in all a very good holiday, some amazing climbing, we will hopefully be back!!

The resort location is fantastic and ideally suited for tennis, water sports and mountain biking. Recommend you book a room in advance as you need a room number to log into the app and book activities. Using the app we booked activities three days in advance (and before we arrived). We were in Room 242 in the lower south east wing - we paid extra for the sea view. The room and the view were fine but we were disappointed with the poor WiFi and that there was no fridge. Showers were cold for a couple of days but the hotel quickly fixed the problem when we complained. We majored in tennis and pickleball. There are only two pickleball courts so make sure you book sessions three days in advance as it's extremely popular. Neilson really need to extend the PB courts into the car park. Although social tennis was organised by ability, social pickleball wasn't. We cancelled our later social bookings and teamed up with another family and booked early evening free play sessions. The inclusive group tennis coaching was excellent. If you can keep a rally going you should join the Red tennis group.

I’m usually a visitor to boutique hotels rather than large resorts, and certainly not any that smack of package holidays or all-inclusivity. However, Neilson’s Alana Beach Club proved a notable exception. The quality and value are simply incredible — flights, (good) food, dozens of sports (with included professional instruction and even free certification), wonderful pools, sports facilities and equipment, staff who are fun, caring and social with guests, and a great vibe, all for less than accommodation alone at other places. It’s such a good deal I’m considering canceling another holiday just to come back! Strongly recommend.
