I do not recommend it, unless you want to feel like a thief. The security guard might think you’ve stolen something, even if the alarm gates don’t go off. I initially picked up some jewelry, then realized I had forgotten my bank card at home and couldn’t pay. I put the rings back on the shelf and left the store. I was stopped and spoken to like a criminal. They demanded to see my pockets, searched through my bag, because the guard thought I had taken two sets of jewelry and walked out with one of them. After I showed where I had left the one that didn’t suit me, a cashier came over and also started searching my pockets for the second set I never even took. In the end, they just shrugged and let me go — without so much as an apology.
