Great disappointment for us! The waitress girl was very very kind and smiley. It was her first day, so we felt sorry for her, about our situation. It definitely wasn’t her fault at all! The mussels we ordered wasn’t cleaned and prepared properly! The byssus (the beard) was all left on! The fact that the mussels were served with the byssus still attached (the “beard” or stringy part they use to cling to rocks) is a serious mistake for a seaside restaurant — especially one that claims to serve fresh seafood. This is a basic level of cleaning that should never be overlooked. Poor girl kept saying so sorry, even though it wasn’t her fault at all! After she took it back to the kitchen, a not too kind woman came out, and instead of apologising she kept telling us, that the beard of the mussels are part of the sea, and it comes with that. They can’t clean every single one of them by hand! She asked us that did we ever ate mussels before, because they are served like this. When we told her yes we had them before many times and we do know how to clean them and prepare them, she just went back in! Absolutely unsuitable behaviour! After that the kind girl came back, and asked if we want something else instead. We ordered calamari, which was ok. The fish soup wasn’t very tasty, taste of very strong fish and just warm water, almost no seasoning at all, nowhere near like the traditional Croatian seaside fish soup. The toast was made out of low quality bread. This made sense in the end, because just before we left we did see one of the waiter guys went to the next door grocery store and brought the pre packed sliced toast bread from there, trying to hide it from the guests. (Hopefully he bought it for himself and wasn’t sent out by someone from the kitchen for example!) In the end on the bill they didn’t put on the mussels (we did say we will pay it anyway), but we left it there as a tip! (Which should really go to that kind girl and not to anyone else there!) Shame on the chef or on the manager. This place could be so much better! The atmosphere is so nice. Badly managed sadly!
