Extremely disappointing stay – far below Hilton standards
We stayed at Hilton Rijeka Costabella in July 2025 with our family and friends — seven rooms including a villa. Sadly, what should have been a luxurious family vacation turned into a string of frustrations, topped with a serious safety failure.
✅ Rooms were modern and well-equipped, but ours had a broken balcony door that wouldn’t close. No proper solution was offered, and we had to sleep with it open. The “Deluxe” category is misleading — rooms are nearly identical, just a couple floors higher.
🧹 Housekeeping was poor — a used pacifier and a false eyelash from previous guests were still in the room even after cleaning.
🍽️ Room service was limited and unacceptable — we were served burnt toast and charged €85 (later refunded). Minibars were completely empty — a strange and unwelcoming policy that felt like a lost business opportunity and lack of trust in guests. Breakfast ended at 10:30, and by 10:34, angry staff were aggressively clearing everything, creating a rushed and stressful experience in what’s supposed to be a beach resort.
💬 Throughout the stay, we were constantly asked how we’d pay before placing any order — a humiliating and inappropriate practice for a hotel at this level.
🎁 A simple birthday request — two beach cabanas for one day (they were empty!) — was refused, despite all the issues we faced. A kind gesture could have made a difference. It never came.
🚨 Worst of all: a teen boy from a neighboring villa collapsed, unconscious and bleeding. There was no medical staff or defibrillator on-site. My mother-in-law (the same guest whose birthday was dismissed) saved his life by giving first aid and calling an ambulance. This is a serious safety failure that should never happen in a Hilton property.
We left feeling deeply disappointed, unsupported, and unsafe. For the prices charged, this hotel fails to deliver even basic standards of luxury, service, or care. Not recommended.

The hotel and resort is great and luxury. The view is amazing, especially from the Infinity pool. We had a shorter family vacation in end of July, was a great surprise that received an upgraded accommodation (from connected rooms to a 2 bedroom + living room seaview villa). You cannot complain about the room and hotel enterior, wonderful. Loved also that they are dog friendly hotel, having a separate dog Beach part as well (even we were without our dog). We had half board food option. Good variety and quality during breakfast and dinner.
Only minor things which I would propose, to increase more the Customer Experience.
(1) Pool bar was only open from 11am, so you are not able to buy any drinks (coke, water) or ice cream for the kids earlier. Pool is getting busy from 9-10am during Summer time.
(2) Heat a bit the Infinity pool, during end of July, during full sunny days, its temperature was around/max 24 degrees.
(3) At least during summer time, when seems half of the guests are with kids, have simple dinner food options for them (pasta, french fries, chicken nuggets…). Food is great, but definitely limited options for kids.
(4) Pizza Restaurant is open only from 4pm, so missing the opportunity to have lunch there (again, would be better with kids).
All in all, we had great experience and stay. But in my view there are room for smaller changes, especially for families.

Wer zu viel Geld hat, sollte das Hotel austesten. Abendessen (Buffet) 55 Euro p.P.. Da ist nicht mal ein Glas Wasser mit bei. Flasche Wasser 10 Euro, Wein ab 35-40 Euro/Flasche. Kein Markt o.ä. weit und breit.
Und die sollten mal Filzgleiter unter die Stühle im Restaurant kleben. Das ist eine schlimme Geräuschkulisse.

This is not a 5 star hotel. We had one of the most expensive suites in the entire hotel, a 3 bedroom suite which cost alot anywhere in Europe but especially Croatia and for that we got a balcony which faces the hotel's main pool, all of 3 metres away, with zero privacy. The living area was poor (pull down beds!!), leather couches and naff kitchen with an empty refrigerator and no mini-bar. However the worst was the pool right in front of us. All day we have people swimming in front of us and who can look directly into our living area. Our upstairs balcony was tiny and had a single chair (for a 3 bedroom suite!), no sunbeds and no umbrella nor cover. The living area smelled of cigarettes from the previous guests, the cleaning staff dumped bottles, hoovers, towels in front of our front door and the rubbish dump was under our balcony.
If you have any mobility issues this hotel is not for you. To go for breakfast we have to walk down a floor. Then walk up a floor. Then walk down a road to get to a lift which is the single lift to the restaurant, so it never comes so you have to take the stairs for another 2 stories and then go to the main building for another stairs.
Add the €30 a night car parking charge and their attempt to charge €30 for 30mbs wifi and €200 a day sun bed (with water and a bottle of Prosecco) and air conditioning of a coughing mouse you'll understand we won't be back.
The staff however were excellent and the restaurants were very good.

Die Rezeptionistin war super Nett. Der Portier sehr gut. Customer Service versucht Probleme abzuwälzen und das Management interessiert der Gast überhaupt nicht. 5 Sterne mit einem 1 Sterne Management. Jede Pension ist mehr bemüht als dieses Management. Es ist erstaunlich das sich eine solche Hotelkette solche Bewertungen leisten kann und nicht lange schon etwas dagegen unternommen hat. Ich arbeite seit fast 40 Jahren im Tourismus und auch mit vielen Hotels aber so etwas ist mir noch nicht passiert. Ich werde dieses Hotel nie wieder besuchen und empfehle allen meinen Bekannten absolut Abstand von diesem Hotel zu nehmen.

The hotel is incredibly nice! All the staff is very welcoming, knowledgeable and experienced in their craft.
The only thing I didn’t like is how guests are leaving their beach towels out “reserving” themselves spots. More often than not we would walk to the beach in the morning and find the towels laying on the sun loungers without any people in sight. Nothing against the hotel, just people being unethical.

Tolles Luxushotel mit perfektem Service. Als Gold Member habe ich ein Zimmerupgrade erhalten. Frühstück war sehr reichhaltig. Auch die Executive Lounge und die Restaurants sind sehr zu empfehlen.

Very very poor experience at Hilton Rijeka Costabella Beach Resort & Spa. Two days in to our family summer holiday, I was told this morning by the manager that they will downgrade us to another smaller apartment to make way for another family after double booking the room. Then after 40 crazy long texts from the manager throught a day of my holiday refusing to show me the proposed alternative apartment. Never seen anything so unprofessional or crazy. Avoid this hotel.
